We understand that making the leap from a traditional glass/polycarbonate roof to a tiled conservatory roof is a big deal. You want all of your questions answered before you make a decision, right? That’s why we’re here to help! Below are some of our most frequently asked questions, explained in detail, for complete peace of mind!
“Will I lose much light if I opt for a tiled conservatory roof?”
It’s inevitable that some light will be lost, as we will be removing the glass roof. However, we install 4-6 fire rated downlights in all of our roofs to provide you with more light. If you prefer natural light we can also fit additional Velux skylights. You can read more about downlights and skylights on the interior page of our website.
“Will you remove the glass or tile over it?”
We remove the glass or polycarbonate roof for a number of reasons: 1. To reduce the weight, 2. To prevent your conservatory from sweating, 3. To enable your roof to breath and 4. To provide sufficient depth to accommodate your new downlights.
“How are your conservatory roofs insulated?”
All of our roofs are insulated using TLX Silver – a multi foil insulation that gives us fantastic thermal properties without reducing the internal height of your conservatory.
“Will your roof solution be warmer than my existing polycarbonate/glass roof?”
Absolutely! Your new roof will be significantly warmer. Traditional conservatories often get too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Our insulation helps to retain heat providing a comfortable living space in all weather conditions.
“Do you completely remove the existing roof spars, and replace with new, to hold the weight of the new tiled roof?”
We do not feel it is necessary to remove your already existing roof spars. In most cases, they are more than adequate and structurally sound to accommodate the new replacement roof. We reinforce the roof with timber batons along each rafter. This provides us a secure fixing point for our tiles whilst increasing the structure of the overall roof.
“Do I need planning permission for a tiled conservatory roof?”
Not in most cases however each conservatory is different. We can inspect this during a survey but it is very unlikely you will need planning permission. If you would like to find out more about building regs check out this brochure.
